Church History

The first worship and communion service was held on March 4, 1974 at Riverside Chapel Seventh Day Adventist Church, 800 Youngs Lane, at which time the decision was made to name the church "Faith United" March was a very busy month for the new church. The official board was appointed and elected. One hundred twenty-two decision slips for transfer of membership were accepted and the congregation voted to pay $500.00 in earnest money to secure the purchase of three acres of land at the corner of Revels Drive and Whites Creek Pike. The first building fund amount was $7,000.00.Deacon Central Dunn was the first member of the newly formed Faith United Missionary Baptist Church to pledge $1,000 to the building fund.

On April 4, 1974, exactly one month after the church organized, Faith United was granted formal recognition by the Nashville City Missionary Baptist Association. With hard work and unfaltering dedication, the congregation continued its labor of love-never losing sight of its goal: to build a New Testament Church. Between the months of April and December, 1974, an envelope system for offering was instituted, a church van was purchased, and a bus ministry was inaugurated.

On March 2, 1975, The dedication of the church and groundbreaking service was held. The first phase of the building was completed. Drawing upon the strength of the pastor, the euphoria of having met its first goal, and guided by I Corinthians 5:7, "WE WALK BY FAITH, NOT BY SIGHT," the congregation continued its annual day observances and fund raising activities. Architectural plans (drawn by R. Douglas Roberts) were accepted on March 21, 1975. The second phase of the building program began on April 13, 1975. "TOGETHER WE SHALL BUILD "was the slogan adopted. On October 31, 1976, the church authorized the Trustees to obtain a loan of $159,682.80 from Community Federal Savings and Loan to build the church sanctuary.

We are proud of our roots and we will not forget the "bridge that brought us across." We are grateful for the guidance and leadership of the late Dr. J. Lewis Powell and Reverend Charlie J. Oglesby. We thank God for sending us Pastor Roosevelt Walker, Sr. to continue this journey. He has given us this vision for our church family: Faith United Missionary Baptist Church is a welcoming pillar of Christ’s love and Christian growth.

Church Beliefs & Values

We BELIEVE & VALUE that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is Lord of all & Savior of the world to the glory of the Heavenly Father according to the expressed Word of God as recorded in the Bible [Jn. 1:1-18, 1 Cor. 15:1-11, Col. 1:15-18]

We BELIEVE & VALUE that God the Father, God the Son & God the Holy Spirit are One or Triune in essence & have unique yet interdependent & interactive responsibilities in the Godhead which represents the only true God that can be known to humanity as recorded in the Bible [Mt. 28:16-20, Jn. 14:1-26, Phil. 2:5-11]

We BELIEVE & VALUE the biblical truth that all men, women & children-those past, present & future--have sinned [missed the mark of righteousness] and come short of God's glory as recorded in the Bible [Gen. 3, Rom. 3:23, 5:12-19]

We BELIEVE & VALUE as prophesied in the Old Testament & personified in the New Testament that Jesus or Emmanuel [God with us] was born of the virgin Mary endowed by the Holy Spirit; He lived, ministered, died on the CROSS & was raised on the third day by the Heavenly Father for the remission or propitiation of sins for all fallen or sinful humanity as recorded in the Bible [Lk.1:18-2:1-7, Jn. 3:1-21, 1 Jn. 2:1-21]

We BELIEVE & VALUE that authentic faith in Jesus Christ once a person makes a conscious & confessional acknowledgment of his or her sin-filled condition & circumstances--as the Lord sees them--is the only way to both "eternal life" & the kind of Spirit-filled "earthly life" the Heavenly Father desires for each person to experience; Jesus Himself said "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" as recorded in the Bible [Jn. 10:10, 14:6, Acts 4:12, Rom. 10:9]

We BELIEVE & VALUE and will always endeavor to holistically preach, teach & live out the inerrant principles of the Word of God as recorded in the Bible [Ps. 119, Heb. 4:12]

We BELIEVE & VALUE loving the Lord with all our heart, loving people in all we do & serving with nerve (courage) our neighbor as recorded in the Bible [Mt.22:37-39]
